When you create a new mask, it is always in the default state.

To edit a mask put it into the edit mode ( → context menu).

If the edited mask is subsequently saved the default mask cannot be overwriten - a new mask name is required. 

For editing, deleting etc. always the The context menu in the corresponding section on the left-hand side is always used for editing, deleting, etc.
