ATTENTION: Emission calculations may be subject to inaccuracies, as the type of drive of the transport mode (e.g. diesel or electric locomotive) and the exact route with possible intermediate stops are not known when determining the values.

EcoTransIT has a lot of experience in this area and tries to determine the values as accurately as possible based on certain criteria.

Perform CO2 emission calculation

Required data

EcoTransIT (ETW for short) requires the following information to determine the values:

  • Weight in KOS

  • Mode of transport per leg

  • Sections to be calculated (precarriage, main carriage and/or oncarriage)

The weight is transmitted from the goods description (version M) of the order.

The modes of transport of the legs are entered manually in the Transport tab of the order.

No mode of transport needs to be entered for the main carriage if it matches the module in which the order was entered (e.g. seafreight = vessel).
However, if the mode of transport transport in the main carriage differs from the module, the correct means of transport must be entered in the Transport tab (e.g. module: seafreight/mode of transport: rail).
If there is no main carriage for an order, the value NONE is selected in the Transport tab in the section main carriage - mode of transport field.
This must be entered in the master data → Set up CO2 emission calculation in ORDER → MODE OF TRANSPORT.

The following modes of transport are available for the partial legs:

  • Truck

  • Rail

  • Barge

ATTENTION: EcoTransIT can only evaluate these modes of transport!

If there is a combined pre- or on-carriage, the dominant mode of transport must be recorded.

If another entry is to be used for the mode of transport than mentioned above, a code conversion in the master data is necessary for the transmission of the data → Set up CO2 emission calculation under EDI CODE CONVERSIONS.

Should the order be a self-collection or self-delivery, no data for pre-carriage and on-carriage will be recorded.

The determination of the start and end points for the calculation of the partial legs is carried out in the following order:

  1. ZIP code of the pick up/destination address (Access via the address no. and use of the postcode from the addresses master data)

  2. ZIP code of the Shipper/Consignee address (Access via the address no. and use of the postcode from the addresses master data)

  3. UNLoCode of the location field of the Shipper/Cnee address (adr_t.fk_ort_mc)

  4. UNLoCode of the place of receipt/final destination from the Transport tab.

Airfreight

In Airfreight, the flight number is transmitted in addition to the routing data so that the exact route of the flight can be determined.
In addition, the aircraft type is then also taken into account for the emissions calculation.

Types of transmission

If the automatic transmission of CO2 values is active in the TMS, the number of transmissions per order can now be limited.

To do this, the following global setting must be activated:
INSERT INTO global_sett_t (schluessel, wert) VALUES(CO2_CHECK_COUNT, '2');

Value: Number of max. permitted checks - a value between 1 and 10 is permitted here

If you are interested, please get in touch with your contact person at CargoSoft.

Automatic transmission

A trigger is required for an automatic transmission of the CO2 values.

The following options are available to trigger a transmission.
Some of these can also be combined and are activated with the corresponding global setting → Set up CO2 emissions calculation under Global settings.

Classified addresses

If one of the 9 order addresses has the classification CO2 (see Set up CO2 emission calculation), the calculation is triggered when the file is saved.

Estimated/actual date of departure

Only after the ETD or ATD has been recorded is the calculation triggered when the file is saved.

The following bl/awb types are excluded from the automatic calculation

  • consols/consol containers (bl_awb_typ =CON) or

  • pure documentation files (bl_awb_typ =XXX).

If data in an order is changed and subsequently saved, the system checks whether data relevant for CO2 determination has been changed/added.
If this is the case, a new calculation is triggered. If the data is irrelevant for this calculation, nothing happens.

When setting up this function, it can be defined from which month of performance this function applies. This avoids unnecessary checks of files that are much older.

Manual transmission via function XML to partner

For individual consignments, data can be sent manually for emission calculation, via function File → Export → XML-to-Partner.

To do this, enter the value CO2 in the EDI partner field and save the file.

Thus, the data set will be transmitted.

ATTENTION: With this method, the restrictions that exist with automatic transmission do not apply.

View of the determined data

The results can be displayed in the dashboard or accessed via a separate report.

Dashboard

The calculated CO2 data can be viewed via the dashboard.

There are two tables for the view - co2_v and co2_total_v - which are included in the dashboard. The values must always be specified in to.

Table co2_v

In table co2_v all individual results of ETW are displayed:

Table co2_Total_v

In table co2_total_v, the totals are shown in total as well as separately for precarriage, main carriage and oncarriage:

Export to Excel

The search results can also be exported using the Export to Excel function.

Report

The evaluation and display of the CO2 values can also be shown in a report.

CargoSoft will be happy to create a special report tailored to your needs and wishes.

Response in the order

The statuses reported back by ETW are displayed in the EDI status tab in the order.

The respective values for the status are listed below in the detail area.

Set status and email notification on status receipt

Automatic e-mail notifications and statuses can be generated in the order in the status tab (see Set up CO2 emissions calculation under Status events) if

  • the CO2 emissions calculation was successful (status code Successful)

  • or an error has occurred (status code Failed).

Export data

The CO2 data determined can be transferred to other systems as a CargoSoft file in XML format.
